Standing Committee on Official Languages

The Standing Senate Committee on Official Languages has the mandate to study all matters relating to official languages generally. It studies matters relating to the application of the Official Languages Act (OLA) and of the regulations and directives made under it.

The committee investigates the respect of Canadians’ language rights and the principle of equality of the two official languages. It examines questions pertaining to the OLA and pays particular attention to the federal government’s role and its commitment to advancing English and French in Canadian society and to enhancing the vitality of the English and French linguistic minority communities.

Senator McIntyre has been a member of this committee since his appointment to the Senate in 2012.

Standing Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs

The Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs has the mandate to examine legislation and to study matters relating to legal and constitutional matters generally, including the criminal justice system and the Criminal Code, constitutional issues, electoral matters, linguistic and legal duality, federal-provincial relations, law reform, the judiciary and most private bills.

The committee has historically been, and continues to be, one of the Senate’s busiest committees. The vast majority of the committee’s work entails the consideration of legislation, although from time to time the committee has undertaken more in-depth special studies on areas related to its mandate. Over the past few years, the committee has conducted statutory reviews, studied pilot projects, reviewed statutory regulations and has made recommendations relating to user fee increases.

Senator McIntyre has been a member of this committee since his appointment to the Senate in 2012.

Standing Committee on National Security and Defence

The Standing Senate Committee on National Security and Defence has the mandate to examine legislation and study issues related to national defence, security and veterans affairs.

The Senate created the committee during the 1st Session of the 37th Parliament, on March 15, 2001, with the first organization meeting taking place on May 10, 2001. 

Senator McIntyre has been a member of this committee since November 2017. 

Subcommittee on Veterans Affairs

The Subcommittee on Veterans Affairs examines matters pertaining specifically to Canadian Veterans.

Senator McIntyre has been a member of this committee since January 2018.
